This is my before and after bench press.
The top is before, I was already doing a lot of yoga and had some coaching on my bench press with crossfit.
The bottom photo is my new bench technique and arch. I have since started being massaged by Wendy at Shadeofgrey Cottage. I had one 90 minute massage and one 2 hour massage in my last 6 week power lifting cycle. I was very impressed by Wendy's dedication to her clients by doing such long massages! I feel less tight in my back, my lower and upper back especially as these parts used to become very tight and lumpy.
I can now bend my back a lot more in the upper back and tighten my lower back without the pain I used to get. Even though I was flexible from yoga I still found my lower back was in pain when moving out of the back bent position from bench press. This allows me to utilize my coaching to utilize fullest and to get the most out of my training as I don't have to take days off with a sore back. In the past I had tried various massage therapists and thought doing yoga would be enough to keep up mobility and stay injury free during my training. It wasn't until I started massage with Wendy that I truly see the benefit in massage past the relaxation benefits. I consider massage to be just as important as using quality equipment, coaching, recovery and nutrition to my training. These two photos show the physical difference that can be seen, especially considering my back actually feels better in the photo with a bigger bend in my back!
